Dr Garry Hamilton is available for in person appointments at our Shepparton Regional Hub.

Dr Garry Hamilton is an interventional and structural heart disease cardiologist, working within the precinct at both Austin Health and Warringal Private Hospital. He leads the Rapid Access Chest Pain Assessment Service at Austin Health and is committed to delivering thoughtful, evidence-based cardiovascular care, approaching each patient interaction with a strong sense of responsibility.

Dr Hamilton completed his cardiology training and local fellowships in Melbourne and Hobart. During his training at Austin Health, he was awarded the prize for best performance in the RACP Physicians Examinations within his training consortium. Supported by the prestigious Dr MG Ciezar Memorial Scholarship, he subsequently undertook two years of subspecialty fellowship training at King’s College Hospital in London. During this time, he gained extensive experience in complex coronary intervention and contemporary structural heart procedures within a high-volume centre.

Dr Hamilton has a strong academic and teaching interest. He has been awarded several competitive grants and scholarships, including support for his PhD through a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) fellowship.

His research has been published in leading international cardiovascular journals, and he has presented his work at national and international scientific meetings.

He holds a formal academic appointment with the University of Melbourne and is actively
involved in teaching and mentoring junior doctors and cardiology trainees, with a focus on developing both technical expertise and sound clinical judgement.

His clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of coronary and structural heart disease, with particular expertise in:
• Coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention, including intracoronary imaging and calcium modification techniques.
• Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
• Mitral and tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (MTEER/TTEER).
• Transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve replacement.
• Other structural heart interventions, including patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure and
treatment of paravalvular leaks.

Dr Hamilton values a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach and works closely with patients, their families, referring clinicians, and the broader multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and high quality care. He aims to ensure patients and their families feel informed, supported, and confident throughout their care.
